IP Rated A&D Balance Guide

IP = Ingress Protection. It tells you how well a device is sealed against dust and water.

IP ratings are usually two numbers:

  • The first digit = Dust protection (scale: 0–6)

  • The second digit = Water protection (scale: 0–8)

The higher the numbers, the tougher the unit.

What It Means

IP65

Dust-tight + Protected against low-pressure water jets (most common for food use)

IP66

Dust-tight + Protected against strong water jets

IP67

Dust-tight + Protected against immersion in water (short-term)

IP68

Dust-tight + Protected against continuous submersion (rare in balances)


Who Needs a Washdown Balance?
