Balance Maintenance 101: How to Keep Your Unit Clean, Accurate & Reliable

Precision balances are built to deliver exact results — but only if they’re well maintained. Proper care doesn’t take long, but it makes a big difference in accuracy, performance, and lifespan.

Here’s a quick guide to help you get the most from your A&D balance.

✅ Daily Cleaning Tips

Keep your balance clean to avoid drift, contamination, and buildup.

  • Power off and unplug the unit before cleaning.

  • Remove the pan, draft shield, and any loose components.

  • Use a lint-free cloth dampened with mild soap and water or 70% isopropyl alcohol.

  • Avoid spraying liquids directly onto the unit.

  • Dry all parts completely before reassembly.

Tip: In powder-heavy or high-traffic environments, consider cleaning twice daily and using a dust cover when not in use.

🔧 Best Practices for Long-Term Use

  • Calibrate regularly — follow your internal or external calibration process.

  • Avoid overloading the pan — even momentary strain can damage the load cell.

  • Ensure the balance is level and located away from drafts or temperature fluctuations.

  • If the balance is relocated, adjust the local gravity setting to maintain accuracy. (Ask your dealer if you need help!)

🚫 Things to Avoid

  • Don’t use abrasive cleaners, strong solvents, or compressed air.

  • Don’t place items on the pan when the unit is powered off.

  • Don’t ignore drift or inconsistent readings — they’re usually a sign of contamination or environment issues.
